What is Life Mentoring?

Life mentoring is a supportive learning relationship between a trained mentor who shares knowledge, experience and wisdom with another person who is ready and willing to benefit from this exchange.

Positive Choices

Requesting a Life Mentor does not mean something is wrong with you. It is a smart decision to help you:

  • Find new motivation
  • Overcome barriers in life
  • Share life wisdom
  • Get the support you need

Walking Alongside

A life mentoring relationship is about walking alongside another person, sharing life wisdom and celebrating success. It is not about telling someone what they should do, how they should do it, or requiring that certain things are achieved. You choose your own goals

Helping GROW

Goals – Clarifying a desired future to work towards

Reality – Identifying the current things to overcome

Options – Exploring possible new solutions

Way – Developing an achievable plan

Commitment

Life mentoring is free of charge. The Mentor will agree with you how often it would be helpful to meet and where would be convenient. You can end the mentoring at any point but it will be reviewed when your goals have been achieved to decide the way forward.

Requesting a Life Mentor

You can refer yourself or someone you know by contacting the Highway Mentoring Coordinator. You will need to answer a few basic questions and then the Coordinator will arrange a meeting

to discuss the kind of mentor that

would be a good match.

You can complete this referral form and email it to the coordinator or simply phone them directly.

Finding the right mentor

The Mentoring Coordinator ensures that background checks are completed and carefully selects mentors before identifying a good match. All Life Mentors complete comprehensive training and receive regular supervision for their role. Regular reviews are conducted to ensure that the mentoring relationship is helpful for both people.
